Things to consider when upgrading Canon Cameras

This post was originally going to be an email but I decided to make a blog post about the topic instead.

I hope this is helpful to anyone considering upgrading their Canon Camera and especially if they are considering the Eos R or R5.

When purchasing the Eos R or R5, the batteries they need are the same batteries used in the Canon R6, 90D, 60D, 70D, 80D, 5D II, 5D III, 5D IV, 5Ds, 6D, 6D II, EOS 7D, and 7D Mark II Cameras. https://amzn.to/38oPa0y

When purchasing the R5, you rarely find a good deal that includes memory cards and lenses so the cost of the cameras should also include the need for faster cards and a lens adaptor or R series lenses.

The adaptor I bought when I upgraded from a 5D mark 3 to R5 https://amzn.to/2PCsiEb

This same adaptor I used on two other Eos R cameras. I believe it can adapt between any Canon EF and EF-S series lenses.

The EOS R had a HDMI output but it's not as easily adaptable to TVs for monitoring.

Making the SD card choosing easy...

This is the CF card I use with my Canon R5: https://amzn.to/38lOCZu

This is the SD card I have used in the EOS R: https://amzn.to/3l2Oweq

This SD card will probably be better if you want to record 4k in the EOS R: https://amzn.to/3t1juGq

This second card should work for both cameras. I don't know if you'll be able to record 8k on the Eos R with it but you can record 4k.

The in camera image stabilization may be better with R series lenses than with adapted lenses.

I have yet to do more tests on this but I've noted that the R series lenses seem to work better with the in body camera stabilization.
